Nancy’s Pet Alien

Nancy had been waiting donkey’s years for her parents to buy her a pet dog. Every month, she asked her Mum and Dad when it would happen.

“Nancy,” her father said.  “You can keep asking for a dog until you're blue in the face. We’re not having any animals in this house.”

It was like banging her head against a brick wall. No matter how much she asked, Nancy knew she was never going to get her pet dog.

One afternoon, Nancy was meandering around town when she saw a sign in one of the shops. The sign said ‘Pet alien for sale.’

Feeling intrigued, Nancy entered the shop and asked about the pet alien.

“Oh yes,” said the shopkeeper. “We still have Arnold. That’s his name. He’s from another galaxy, but he’s very polite and he speaks 32 languages.”

Nancy promptly paid the shopkeeper and took Arnold the Alien home. As they entered the front door, Nancy’s father stared at the little green alien. He was gobsmacked.

“Nancy! What on earth is that thing?”

Arnold smiled and waved his little green hand in greeting.

“Dad,” said Nancy. “This is Arnold. He’s my pet alien. You said I couldn’t have an animal in the house, so I got an alien instead.”

Nancy’s father rubbed his chin, looking pensive.

“That’s true, I did say no animals. I suppose a pet alien is fine. Pleased to meet you Arnold, I’m Nancy’s Dad. Make yourself at home, but don’t sit in my favourite chair and don’t eat my favourite biscuits.”

Nancy took Arnold up to her bedroom and showed him all of her toys. She had completely forgotten about having a pet dog.
